Epsom Downs
I had the third full day in England all to myself. Catherine and her family put me up at the Premier Inn which was a fabulous chain. It was right in the city center. I was out and about as soon as I stepped out of the door.
It gave me the chance to sightsee although the town of Epsom Downs wasn't really big. What it lacked in size, it certainly made up in charm. It was a lovely, quiet, and safe place. I don't remember seeing any homeless or panhandlers anywhere. The city was immaculately clean and the architecture, very British!
I remember going to a Poundland which was like a dollar store. I visited TK Maxx twice. I so wanted to shop there but I didn't have any luggage space. Too bad because I wanted to buy two pairs of shoes and a bag. There was likewise a thrift store I found absolutely a gem. I went inside a supermarket which sold inexpensive luggage. I was tempted to buy so I could shop but I had to restrain myself in the end.
The first thing I had to do that morning was to go to a bank to exchange the old British pounds I had gotten on my last trip to London and had taken home with me last 2015. The notes had apparently been taken out of circulation and I found out about it in Gibraltar last year. I brought the money with me and tried to use them in a supermarket and a Burger King only to be told they were no longer in use. While I was not a customer of Metrobank, the employees there were kind enough to exchange my old notes with new ones.
The day ended with me having a sumptuous dinner at a Japanese restaurant with Catherine and her entire family. What nice memories I made here.
