The Rijksmuseum

3-Mar-2019 • Amsterdam Netherlands

Although this was my second visit to Amsterdam, visiting the Rijksmuseum last December was my first. While there, I was determined to see it. I had heard many good things about this museum and after spending hours in it, I can say that it is truly world class. What art collections and exhibits!

I wouldn't mind it at all going to the museum again next time I visit Amsterdam. Hopefully next time, I'd have more time to view everything in it at a more leisurely pace. Although there were lots of visitors the time I went, I don't remember it being suffocating. The museum had enough space and many galleries that people weren't really packed like sardines.

After a short tram ride, we reached the museum replete with visitors. It was rather confusing getting in at first. To begin with there were literally thousands of visitors in line for tickets and even before that, we had to check our jackets and backpacks in. We must have spent a good twenty minutes just waiting for our turn. Anyway, once that was done, it was visiting one gallery after another for us for several hours that day.

I so loved seeing this self portrait of Vincent Van Gogh.

I just had to take a picture of this painting of William and Mary. It was after them that the very prestigious College of William and Mary in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia was named.

This was the library in inside the museum. I wanted to take better pictures but with the crowds of people, this was the best I could take.
