The Alcazaba of Malaga

10-Sep-2018 • Malaga Spain

One of the must sees in Malaga is the Alcazaba. Just so you know, the word Alcazaba is the Spanish equivalent for Citadel. Said to be the best preserved alcazaba in all of Spain, this palatial fortification on top of a hill, looked like the Alcazar of Seville or the Alhambra of Granada. Though not as intricately and elaborately decorated, it had strong Moorish designs.

On the day of our visit, admission was free. We spent a good amount of time here and we liked going inside the citadel because it was an impressive piece of Spanish history dating back to the 1400s during the time of the Spanish reconquest headed by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabel. It likewise provided some cool shade from the horrific and oppressive heat of the sun, lol.

A view of one of the pathways to the Alcazaba. I was terrified of this path not because it looked scary but because of the long distance I'd have to walk in the intense heat of the sun.

These were the Roman ruins at the foot of the Alcazaba
