Malaga

Hello South of Spain!

After Lisbon, Portugal, Marc and I took an Air Portugal flight to Malaga. The flight took approximately an hour. Upon our arrival in the airport, we took the local train to the city center. The train station was just right outside the airport. It was easy to find.

We stayed at the Ibis City Center and we were glad we did. It was centrally located and close to everything. Due to some sewer work going on the afternoon of our arrival, I had quite a bad impression of the city at first. The bad impression did turn into awe as the days went by.

We made Malaga our base to tour other cities. It was from here where we set out to go to Fuengirola, Torremolinos, Cordoba, and Seville. We took the train to travel to these cities.

I will never forget the heat here in Southern Spain. It was truly painful on my skin. It all began in Madrid and the very hot weather simply continued in the South.

Inside the Malaga Train Station which looked so much like a mall. There were shops here and restaurants too. We actually ate here a lot. I will never forget the Fritura MalagueƱa which I enjoyed having for lunch and dinner. It was a mixture of fried fish and calamari. I also went shopping here for clothes. I loved Massimo Dutti and Cortefiel.

This was the city's main shopping street. I sure was glad it was covered. Otherwise, the heat would have been horrific. It provided ample shade.

The Public Market

A lovely beach scene in downtown. We saw lots of beaches in Southern Spain, but, we saw very few people swimming. How ironic!

Beautiful Spanish architecture

This was a luxury hotel facing the beach.

We have these bicycles in San Francisco too!

The Alcazaba or Citadel of Malaga

Taken atop la Alcazaba. We entered the citadel from a different entrance. I did see this walkway from the promenade and I was terrified of walking up this path all because of the afternoon heat.

The tree lined promenade was long. I did appreciate the trees that lined this walkway on both sides. They provided the much needed shade from the horrible heat.

A monument dedicated to Ruben Dario along the promenade. How can I not know this man? I'm a Spanish language major!

Cafes were plentiful in Spain and Malaga had its share.
