La Torre de Belem
One of the sights in Lisbon I didn't get to see during my first visit years ago was the Torre de Belem. It was covered in scaffolding then and so of the must sees in the Belem area, I was really able to visit only the Monastery of San Jeronimo. I sure was glad to see it this time around.
It is said to have been built in the Manueline style and it was the tower that sailors saw last of Lisbon as they set out to explore the world and the first one they saw as they returned from their exploits loaded with gold, spices, and social diseases.
We no longer went up the tower although the admission fee wasn't so steep. Instead, we went around the tower and took pictures of it from different sides and angles.
