The National Gallery of Art
I totally loved the National Gallery of Art. Its collections of paintings and other works of art were simply world class and the setting equally so. We spent a good amount of time here, at least two hours, and I enjoyed every minute.
After having visited many museums around the world, I can safely say I can spot certain painters' works from their style. I am not an expert but I can identify a few. Besides, of the hundreds I've seen from thirty years of travels I now have my favorites. They are not necessarily the most famous ones like Mona Lisa in the Louvre or the works of Pablo Picasso and Joan Miro in Spain but rather by lesser known painters whose themes and subjects resonated with me. They hit home. I remember one painting at the Crocker Museum in Sacramento which depicted a European man returning home to visit his family after having lived in the United States for so long. Then there's my absolute favorite at the Legion of Honor right in my adopted city of San Francisco, the Russian Bride's Wedding. Moreover, how can I forget the American Gothic at the Chicago Art Institute.
Of the museums I visited in Washington DC, I would love to visit this particular museum once again. In fact, I wouldn't mind visiting it over and over. That's just how lovely the place was for me.
