La Catedral Metropolitana de Buenos Aires

20-Jul-2017 • Buenos Aires Argentina

I was totally caught by surprise when I found out that this building was actually the site of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Buenos Aires. I have been to many churches all over the world and this cathedral just didn't look anything like the church of God. In fact, I thought it was a government building because of the way it looked. In my mind, churches have towers, the high dome, and a portico. We had already left the Plaza de mayo when my partner, Marc, told me that what we had seen was actually the cathedral and so of course, we had to return and take a look inside.

Would you really think this was a church just by looking at its façade? I didn't.

This was the main altar.

Here's a frontal view of the altar.

An even closer view

This was what we found at the rear of the main altar.

A plaque with a coat of arms

Would you believe, a Santo Niño?

This was on the right side of the cathedral from the main entrance. This was the burial site of General San Martin, Argentina's beloved founder.

From here onwards, the images were that of small altars on both sides of the cathedral.
