St. John, New Brunswick

I would be lying if I said that I really and truly wanted to visit St. John in New Brunswick as part of my summer vacation this year. Truth of the matter is, I didn't even know the city existed until my partner and I decided to go to Prince Edward Island. We realized that the drive back to the US, particularly to Princeton, New Jersey was way too long from PEI and so we had to break the trip along the way. St. John, one of the two stops we made, seemed very convenient and so we went and stayed for two days. It gave us the chance to visit Halifax, in Nova Scotia as well.

I do remember seeing so many cars with Maine and Massachusetts plates. Apparently, there was a swim meet for high school kids hence their unmistakable presence.

St. John's City Hall. Had there not been a sign that said so, I would have mistaken this building for an ordinary office building. Back in the US, city halls usually have a dome. This particular building didn't. Then again, we were in Canada.

Of all the sights in St. John's, my favorites were the Loyalists' House as well as John Hooper's sculptures called People Waiting. The latter were in fact hilarious colorful figures that stood in the very center of town. They were such a hoot.

This building was an imitation of an old mercantile store from the 1800s. It doubled as a mini museum.

These old flat irons were some of the artifacts on display inside the mercantile store/museum.

This was the site of John Hooper's artwork, People Waiting. I say, we waited as well to take pictures of the whole lot. There were a number of tourists who were so delighted to see them just like we were.
