Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

20-Jul-2016 • Charlottetown Prince Edward Island

Charlottetown was the first city we visited in Prince Edward Island. We had to drive to go there from our hotel but it didn't take too long to reach. It was the biggest city we had visited up until that point during our trip. However, even then the entire place was very quiet. There were people alright, locals and tourists alike. It just wasn't as busy as the places I have lived in or been to.

As soon as we parked our rental car, it was sightseeing for us right away. We didn't have any map nor guide for the city, but it didn't really matter to us. We just walked around and explored at our pace. The first of the points of interest we saw was the War Memorial right behind the Province House. I do say, there seemed to be a War Memorial in every city we visited on this Atlantic Canada trip.

Province House

Province House was an imposing building. With its columns up front, it looked very regal. If I am not mistaken, the building was undergoing major renovation. I am not certain if the entire site had been vacated to make way for the construction but it did seem empty to us. Perhaps, it did so also because we were there around 6 pm. Hence, if ever there were any employees who worked there during the week, they would have all gone home by the time we visited it.

Right beside the Province House was the local theater

Saint Dunstan's Basilica. It would have been nice to have seen its interior. But, it was closed for the day.

Saint Dunstan's University was located just right next to the basilica.

Peakes Wharf. This place reminded me of home, of San Francisco. It was touristy alright. Scores of souvenir stores selling t-shirts. sweatshirts, stuffed animals and everything else Canadian.

I must say there certainly were lots of lobsters in PEI. This was the place where Marc and I ate lots of seafood. It was delightful.

This was one commercial building that caught my eye.

A grand hotel in PEI

Marc and I didn't stay here but this hotel sure looked grand. Wish we did.
