Canada's Tim Horton's
I never realized how expansive Tim Horton's reach was in Canada until my most recent visit to the country's Atlantic coast. I saw a Tim Horton's everywhere and it was very popular among the locals. I liked it too. In fact, Marc and I went to one every single day mainly for breakfast. The chain's coffee was very good and its sweets like donuts and muffins even more so.
Truth to tell, I loved going to this place every morning. For sustenance, yes. But what was most interesting for me were its customers. Many of them spoke in French while others combined both languages and spoke in Franglais instead. Now that was interesting.
I do miss the donuts and muffins here. On our first visit to the Tim Horton's in Fredericton, I couldn't keep my eyes off the strawberry shortcake donut with cream filling. It looked so decadently sweet and delicious. I was able to control myself most of the time. But, on our very last day in Canada, I eventually caved in and bought one for myself to taste. Well, to devour, is more the right word.
