A Day in Roatan, Honduras

11-Apr-2015 • Roatan Honduras

There was no doubt as to what we wanted to do in Roatan. It was Tabyana for us. After a couple of days sightseeing, it was time to do some swimmin' and chillin' at the beach. It was here where I did serious damage to my skin. Silly me, I didn't put enough sunscreen on my face and back which was why I had very bad sunburn by the day's end. Boy was it major!

It was just 9:10 am when we arrived here and we had the beach to ourselves. It wasn't until mid day when the rest of the cruise passengers from Carnival and Princess arrived. After jumping into the water, my initial reaction was to leave and stay away. The water felt cold. It was only after I really immersed myself in the water did I get used to the temperature and I swam the rest of the day, literally.

Happy to be in Tabyana

The beach all to myself. I could see my feet under water and there were fish all around me.

How beautiful can the water be?

The lounge chairs at the beach. Marc and I occupied two under a tree. It was good to have some shade. There were local vendors milling about by the beach but they were immediately told to leave by security officers. Since security was good and tight, we just left our backpack under one of the lounge chairs while Marc and I both went swimming. Many other swimmers and bathers did the same thing.

As the day went on, more and more people gathered at the beach. It was very lively.

Clear water

Some locals selling straw hats.

There was a small gift shop at the beach. I asked the lady watching over the place if I could take pictures. She said it was okay and so I clicked away.

There were many paintings by local artists as well as pottery made and produced by the country's Indian population.
