After our shore excursion to the ruins of Altun Ha, we were dropped of in a hotel and restaurant just right outside the cruise port terminal for some cocktail drinks. Since we were close to some of the sights we passed by early in the morning on our way to the ruins, Marc and I decided to walk to them and see them up close. I must say, I was really nervous and wary after all the reviews I read about Belize City on Tripadvisor.
Fortunately, nothing untoward happened to us. Many of the reviews did seem to suggest that we were going to be robbed and killed as soon as we stepped out of the confines of the cruise terminal by locals. It didn't feel as scary though.
The waters that surrounded Belize were turquoise blue and they looked absolutely lovely.
The lighthouse which also served as a memorial to local statesman, Henry Edward Ernest Victor Bliss Jr.
This local mode of transport resembles the tricycle in my native Philippines
This is where we went for drinks. It was an inn with a restaurant on the ground floor.
We also saw a Radisson Hotel nearby. We actually went there to look at the hut on its grounds.
This was the hut at the Radisson Hotel which we visited.
The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan)just a few blocks away from the cruise terminal
The War Memorial (First World War) was a mere block away from where the tenders were to take us back to the ship
A nice house close to the Port Terminal
The flea market right in front of the Port Terminal
We thought this was a landmark of some sort given the very nice building. It was the site for an insurance company.
There were lots of bars inside the Port Terminal.
Local Belize chocolate
The bar was big but was a bit pricey.
Coffee, another Belize produce
A chocolate pod
We all had to take a tender from the ship to the cruise ship terminal and back. The trip took 20 minutes each way.
Our ship, The Norwegian Dawn, waiting for us at the end of an exciting day in Belize
