Belize's Altun Ha Mayan Ruins

11-Apr-2015 • Belize City Belize

I am happy to have visited Altun Ha and include it to Tulum and Chacchoben among some of the absolutely spectacular and awesome Mayan ruins I have seen so far. Had it not been for the cruises we have taken, I probably would not have been able to visit them as easily as we did.

It is when we get to see and actually step foot on these grounds that traveling becomes a learning and unforgettable experience.

Right before cruising with Norwegian, I knew Marc and I had to book a shore excursion in Belize to make our stay there really worthwhile. Many previous travelers mentioned that Belize City felt a bit dangerous and not wanting to take a chance, we opted for something organized. The trip to Altun Ha took around an hour from the city each way. The bus we boarded together with other tourists from NCL was clean and airconditioned. Our two female guides were locals from Belize and Mongosie for one was super funny and nice. It was very hot there though. Very, very hot.

Can't let a visit to Altun Ha go by without a photo opp, of course.
