Himeji, One of Japan's Foremost Castles

1-May-2014 • Himeji Japan

When I began reading our guide books about attractions in Himeji, the castle was number one in all of them. That being the case. Off we went to Himeji from Osaka where we had based ourselves for most of our stay in Japan this summer of 2005.

The way to the castle

What can I say, six months later and 20 pounds lighter, I was just ecstatic to be back in Japan and ever so ready to try on Japanese clothes which I wanted to buy so desperately. Oops, I went off tangent there, back to the castle.

Inside Himeji Castle

Just like most castles in Japan, most were empty inside. I personally think, the castles are better visited on the outside than the inside. Like some people would say: Once you've seen one, you've seen them all.

After our castle visit, we went to the Japanese garden next door named Koko-en. Actually with this garden, we actually saw all there was to see in Himeji.
