Salamanca

12-May-2014 • Salamanca Spain

I had the wonderful opportunity to live in Salamanca over the summers of 2003 and 2004. While completing my Master's studies at its foremost university, Marc wandered the city with his camera taking pictures of this absolutely picturesque and old city in the Castille region of Spain.

While going through the pictures he took of the city, I realized he took majority of them during the early morning or during siesta time hence the very deserted look of the city. Trust me, the city comes alive, very alive during the day. However, between 2 and 4 pm, the city looks like a ghost town as the residents go home for lunch and take the ritual afternoon siesta.

Salamanca's Plaza Mayor is such a different sight in the morning. Late in the afternoon, one can hardly get a seat in its outdoor cafes.

Getting ready for the onslaught of local and international tourists later in the day. Spanish restaurants have three prices for ts patrons. One is charged the least when eating at the bar followed by sitting at the tables. Be prepared to be charged a lot more for the same food and beverage if and when you decide to eat and sit outdoors.
