Terrific Tarragona

11-May-2014 • Tarragona Spain

Tarragona was one Spanish city Marc and I traveled to from Barcelona as a day trip. I sure was glad we went since I had not explored Northern Spain as much as I had Central and Southern Spain in all the years that I lived there.

The Cathedral of Tarragona

A row of statues of the apostles by the main entrance to the cathedral

The cathedral though not as ornately decorated as other Catholic Cathedrals, had certain aspects which reminded me of the Cathedral of Reims in France, the rows of statues of the apostles being some of them.

Get a load of this ancient building

This gargoyle looked happy to me.

A hospital built in the Romanesque style within the Roman walls of the city

Here's the entrance to the walled city of Tarragona. I originally thought it was just Avila which had walls. It turned out there were a few other cities as well scattered all over Spain.

The entry way to Pallol Square and the Roman walls

The balcony which forms part of every Spanish styled apartment building I have seen in most Spanish cities

Some very old apartment buildings in the city

Roman walls from the 2nd and 3rd century BC

How I wished we had time to swim here at this beach. It wasn't nearly as busy nor crowded as the beaches of Sitges in Barcelona.

Greece? No, Tarragona.

At the Roman amphitheater
