The Breakfast Buffet at the Park Inn by Radisson Oslo

7-Aug-2013 • Oslo Norway

The Park Inn by Radisson in Oslo was one of the most expensive hotels we stayed at during our summer vacation to Scandinavia and the Baltic States. However, since breakfast was included in our room's daily rate, we saved some money and cut down on our expenses a bit. It turns out, there were many other tourists mostly from Europe who did what we did. We filled up during breakfast and the only meal we had next was dinner. It was funny when I overheard other tourists talking about the high prices everywhere in the city. One even exclaimed he urged his son to really fill up so they wouldn't have to look for food mid day. "Just like us!" I said to myself.

Anyway, the breakfast spread was very good and with the meats, the eggs, breads, fruits, and pastries they had, it was easy to overeat. I actually had several helpings of their warm Danish every time they served them. Before I forget, many visitors also took the bags of chips served when they left. Anything to save in expensive Norway, I thought.

What made me smile on the first day we had breakfast in the hotel's lone restaurant was one Asian gentleman who took pictures of the food on all the buffet tables. I thought I was the only one planning to take pictures. I bet he took some for his blog as well.

For many hotel guests, fruit was a necessary first bite of the day. In my case, it was the sausages, ham, different varieties of cheese, and scrambled eggs.

I'd say the Park Inn had one of the best morning breakfasts we had. Actually, ever since we traveled to Tallinn, the buffett breakfasts we had had been exceptional. In Vilnius, we were even able to eat our favorite Russian dessert, the Russian potatoes which were made with flour and chocolate. YUMMY! WE get them every so often in a Russian Bakery along Geary.

I was really worried that I would gain weight, a lot of weight, just like what happened last summer after our very first trip to Eastern Europe. Luckily, I didn't on this trip. The day after we arrived, I weighed myself and I weighed the same. I would have preferred to have lost a bit too given all the walk we had to do every single day of the trip, but no such luck.

Cereal. I eat cereal regularly when I'm at home. Since I was on vacation, I say this was one kind of food I intentionally didn't much off to vary a little bit. I did eat it on some days while vacationing, just not a lot.

The different marmalades

Vanilla yogurt

Strawberry yogurt

Marc loved these.

Being the carnivore that I am, this was my food of choice

This was my other favorite food table. The bread and pastries. If I recall correctly I had 5 slices of Danish every morning while there. They were delicious!

The drinks. There was a machine where hotel guests could get orange, apple, and other juices. I had orange juice, water, and my favorite, green tea.
