Berlin, we're back!

18-Jul-2025 • Berlin Germany

I was thrilled to be back in Berlin after so many years. Although we had already seen many of the city's sights during our first trip, there were still a few which we didn't get to see and visit. Among them was the East Side Gallery. In fact, the part of the mural I really wanted to see was that of the two Eastern European leaders, Mr. Brehznev of the USSR and Mr. Honnecker of East Germany kissing. I had seen posts of it a hundred times on Instagram and I knew I couldn't go to Berlin a second time without seeing it for myself this time around.

I didn't realize the so called gallery was a mile long. There sure was a lot to see. As expected, the part of the mural with the two senior leaders kissing was the part that caught many of the tourists' attention. It was in fact hard to take a picture of it given the size of the crowd when we were there. Some parts hardly got a second look while others had gotten so famous over the years due to posts about them on IG.

There were parts of the mile long mural which I didn't take pictures of. But, here are some that I caught my eye.

It took my partner and I quite some time to see the entire wall called the East Side Gallery. There sure were lots to see and the wall was very long.

What a picture! Shocking and funny for me at the same time!

This was the second part of the mural that caught my attention. Growing up during the cold war, I had seen a number of documentaries about East Germans crossing the iron curtain by many means. This part of the mural made me remember those sad times.

Who doesn't know Mr. Gorbachov? I remember this gentleman with fondness. Who would have thought the USSR would cease to exist under his leadership? While many Russians probably dislike him for what he had done, he sure is appreciated in the west.

Mr. Sacharow was another personality I used to hear on the news growing up.
