Batu Caves

26-May-2025 • Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

I would say that besides the Petronas Towers, the Batu Cave is my other big favorite of all the sights in Kuala Lumpur. Located just outside the city, we took the train to get there one morning and the ride was short. We really should have gone earlier because by the time we got there, it was late morning and the crowds had gotten so big. There was no admission to enter. I think the view from the ground level was more spectacular than the inside of the cave itself. What really caught my eye was the color of the stairs and the huge golden statue of a hindu god. The sight simply took my breath away.

There was a bit of a confusion when we got out of the train station once we arrived at the Batu Caves' train station exit. There were touts telling everyone to enter the Ramayana Temple as if it were the main entrance. I knew there was something wrong since I had read that entrance was free to everyone. What seemed to be an entrance was really an entry point for another attraction, a temple, that asked people to pay. Luckily we decided to walk with the other visitors going straight out of the station and sure enough, we saw what we came here for.

We were quite apprehensive of the monkeys that some guides said were present in the area. We even saw some You Tube videos that showed the monkeys grab visitor's backpacks and stole food. We didn't see them up the stairs. In fact, we didn't see any at all.

The Batu Caves. This is one attraction in Kuala Lumpur that ranks high up there in the must see lists.

It was very hot the day we went. Then again, it is very hot in Malaysia any day. Knowing fully well that men wearing shorts were not allowed to enter, we brought the longhi we bought during our trip to Myanmar nearly ten years ago and wore them.

I wasn't going to let Marc visit the Batu Caves without a photo op!

This was the other flight of stairs inside the Batu Caves which we also climbed.

There was a small temple for locals who wanted to pray and worship.

This is the area right by the entrance to the caves. A few people sat down to rest and relax.

Taken after we had gone down the steep stairs and visited the restaurants and souvenir shops in the area.
