Our Rhine River Cruise

5-Aug-2022 • Rhine River Cruise Germany

I had to do extra research prior to uploading this blog post.  That's because on the Sunday we left Frankfurt to do our mini Rhine River cruise, we saw so many castles perched on hills on both sides of the Rhine. I didn't want to just upload pictures and not name any of them here.

Anyway, we left Frankfurt early Sunday and went to the town of Bingen where we bought our tickets for our Rhine River Cruise.  Our boat ride lasted only a few hours and traveled down the river from Bingen to St. Goar.

I initially thought there were very few passengers for our scheduled cruise.  Everyone though showed up en masse a few minutes right before sailing.

This is the real Rhine River Cruise boat that travels up and down the Rhine River in Northern Europe.  Marc and I have seen a lot of them docked in Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, and Cologne over the years while its passengers were on shore excursions during stops.

This is where we boarded the boat for our mini cruise from Bingen to St. Goar.

We had an hour to kill before boarding and so we decided to stroll in the town of Bingen.  Given that it was a Sunday morning, all stores were closed with the exception of a few restaurants catering to tourists.  This was one building that caught my eye.

On our return to Frankfurt, we boarded a DB Train back from Koblenz.

We passed by several beautiful towns.  It's a pity we didn't get to visit many of them. There was even a town named Bacharach which was highly rated and which I wanted to explore.  Due to time constraints though, we had to miss it.

Here's a view of two castles by the River Rhine.  The Gutenfels castle atop a hill and the Pfalzgrafenstein right on the river.

Built during the time of King Ludwig of Bavaria, the Pfalzgrafenstein Castle used to collect customs and duties from merchant ships in the olden days.

This was the boar we traveled on.  Taken in St. Goar shortly after getting off it.
