School's out! Well, almost.
Five more school days and school year 2020-2021 is history. Honestly, I can't wait. I am excited that school will be over soon but I would be lying if I said I look forward to next school year. It's not that I don't like teaching, but teaching from home has been so comfortable for me. I haven't had to wake up at 6 am to catch the early morning train to work for an entire trimester (March 15 to June 15 of 2020) and a whole school year (August 24, 2020-June 15, 2021).
What's more, winter didn't feel half as depressing since I didn't have to go to school nor return home in the dark.
Another big reason why I dread going back to work this fall is the prevalence of Asian Hate crimes. I think I mentioned this many times before in previous blogs. If I had my way, I'd stay home for a while until these assaults on us Asians subsided if not totally diminished. It's just scary and a big worry for us, Asian Americans, here in the US.
While the current school year seems like it went very fast, I have had to work a lot. It wasn't exactly a year without challenges. There were times when I got absolutely upset by some of my students' behavior and by others' lack of interest in studying. There sure were times I wish we were all in school so I could deal with the children's disrespect and laziness in person.
What happened happened. Now, I just look forward to retirement and if these 15 months were any indication how I would be not working, "Boy, I know it will be heaven!!"
