Our Memorial Weekend Getaway 2021

31-May-2021 • San Francisco, California United States

For the very first time after a year and a half of lockdown, we did it!  We traveled!  I must say, it's a wonderful feeling to have gone some place new and beautiful.  Not that the city of San Francisco is ugly.  We simply needed a break from the routine.  A trip to the towns up the California Coast was it for us during the much awaited 3 Day Memorial Day Weekend.

We researched places to visit, but the cost of airfare and hotel stays really whittled our choice to a drive up the California coast.

Thus, as soon as I finished teaching mid day Friday, off we went on our adventure.  It had been decades since we traveled up the coast and a visit to Mendocino, Fort Bragg, Eureka, and Ferndale was very very refreshing.  Hallelujah!

Mendocino was our first stop.

I just loved the country feel of Mendocino.  The town's city center itself was very small but it was big on views.  Little did I know Victorian houses would litter the California coast.  Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful!

I loved this painting of the town by a local artist.  I didn't think I could have afforded it but I wanted to know its price.  The gallery though was closed.

Here's the quintessential view of Mendocino.

Wild flowers grew everywhere

As evening drew closer, we drove to Fort Bragg where we decided to spend the night.
