Downtown Palm Springs

I found Palm Springs to be a pretty little city.  It is very well planned and on a grid very similar to San Francisco.  It is liberal no doubt.  I say this because we saw gay sex clubs lining the main avenues right next to restaurants, interior design stores, and chi chi hotels.  At the time of our visit, there were lots of tourists from nearby Los Angeles.  The city of Angels after all is a mere two hours away or even less.  The locals and visitors alike were very fashionable.  They looked very Hollywoodish.  Art was everywhere.

Marc and I saw this vignette composed of a painting and cement sculpture right outside an interior design and furniture store.

As we walked down Palm Canyon Drive, we saw this steel sculpture by David Tanych

If I were to buy artwork like paintings and lithographs, I would most probably buy them here.  I particularly liked the Donald Lloyd Smith Gallery 49.  There were paintings priced just right for us and we were very tempted to buy a few pieces.  Getting them home though was what made us think otherwise.  They were going to be bulky and oversized and we didn't want to pay exorbitant airline fees just to get them home.  "On our next visit by car", we thought.
