Back in Salamanca after 15 years

14-Aug-2019 • Madrid Spain

Visiting Salamanca, the city where I lived and studied last 2003 and 2004, was never an issue. When we arrived in Madrid from Porto, Portugal, we knew we had to visit. It had been 15 years after all since I was last there. To this day, it is hard to believe that so much time has passed since I finished my Masters studies at the University of Salamanca. Oh what memories!

For sure, it was reminisicing no end as soon as Marc and I arrived there.

Getting there proved difficult at first. We thought of taking the train from Chamartín Station. When we got there, we were shocked by the train tickets (160 euros for the day for both of us!!!). It was then we were advised to take the bus from Mendez Alvaro Bus Station instead. We were told that traveling by bus was going to be cheaper and would actually cost us just half of the train fare.

Thus, from Chamartín, we took the metro train once again. By the time we bought our bus tickets from ALSA, we had been on the road a good two hours. It was around 12 noon when we arrived in Salamanca after the two hour bus ride from Madrid.

We were dropped off at the very same station close to my old dorm which we set out to see and visit right away. The area where the bus station had changed a bit and so it took us a while to get to where we wanted to go.

Oh, how bitter sweet! I had wonderful memories here.

This is the dorm where I stayed while I studied for my Masters in Spanish at the University of Salamanca. Oh what memories! How I missed my classes and my classmates!

We went inside the Church of Saint Francis on our way to the Plaza Mayor.

The Plaza Mayor, one of the prettiest in all of Spain

I remember sitting at one of these cafes and drinking a bottle of coke for hours with my best friends from my course.

The majestic Palacio de Anaya, a property of the University of Salamanca today and where my Spanish language classes were held.
