What is the border city of Lefkosa really like?

3-Aug-2019 • Lefkosa Cyprus, Turkish Fed. State

I found the city of Lefkosa to be pretty. During our first visit, Marc and I didn't really venture far. We stayed very close to the commercial area where the stores selling clothes, souvenirs, and fake goods were at.

We were quite happy with what we saw on our first visit. We saw the Great Khan as well as the Cathedrals of St. Sofia and St. Nicholas.

It was on our second visit when we really ventured farther out into the city. It was here where we saw the unmistakable Turkish influence in this part of the island.

Signs were written in Turkish and monuments were dedicated to Turkish men. What I did notice the farther we got into the city was the absence of women. There were people alright but they were predominantly men walking in the streets and sitting leisurely in squares. The only women we saw were the foreign workers in hotels or the female tourists sightseeing.

Loved this art on a stall

Stores like this were everywhere. In fact, there were lots of stores selling fake goods too. You name the brand, they were sold here. Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, and so much more.

I was tempted to buy this bag.

The Municipal Market. We went through here and explored. There were lots of stalls selling souvenirs here. Lots of rugs,, pillow cases, table runners, and everything else Turkish. It was nice inside. Too bad this market was closed during the Sunday we went back.

I enjoyed lookin at the street art in Lefkosa. They were colorful and cute.
