Our First Day in Nicosia

2-Aug-2019 • Nicosia Cyprus, Republic

Shortly after checking in at our hotel, Marc and I dropped our bags and went out to sightsee. Much to our delight, our hotel, The Royiatiko, was indeed so centrally located. Just a block away was Ledras Street, the main artery of downtown. Retail stores were closing when we arrived and the only establishments open at that time were the restaurants and cafes. We did walk around and saw lots of Indian, Filipino, Middle Eastern, and African nationals everywhere.

We also saw the checkpoint we had to pass through to get to the north side of the island governed by Turkey.

A rear view of the Panagia Faneromeni Church

Panagia Faneromeni Church altar. It was quite a sight to behold, seeing all the gold.

It was nice to see our friendly McDonald's.

There was a Starbucks there as well.
