The Acropolis

28-Jul-2019 • Athens Greece

It was on our second full day in Athens when Marc and I decided to visit the Acropolis. I remember us waking up early that day so that we could beat the crowds and avoid the lines that formed outside the entrance. We even took the subway to get there quickly. By the time we arrived at the Acropolis, however, the line had already formed a block away from the main gate.

It was a good thing waiting didn't take more than half an hour. I vividly remember going up the steps to the top of the hill where the Parthenon was. There was a gate people had to go through and I also remember the busy and frantic atmosphere as fellow tourists hurriedly climbed up the premises. It was quite stressful. Little did we all know, there was no need to panic and outrun each other since the area where the Caryatids and the Parthenon stood was quite spacious and there was room for everyone.

The heat of the sun was horrific but what could we do? We simply had to grin and bear it. Marc and I stayed here a good hour at least. We had to savor every minute.

So glad to see the Parthenon!

Can you notice my wet bangs?

This was the other building atop the Acropolis. It had the statues of the caryatids I had only seen on TV, magazines and on Instagram.

Wow! Just wow!

These young soldiers marched on the premises when we were there at the Acropolis.

What can I say? I was just so glad to see another world attraction. Parthenon, check!

I first saw this theater on TV last 1973 when Philippine bet, Margarita Moran, won the Miss Universe Pageant, then held in Athens.
