Every time I think of Taksim Square, the image of the Republic Monument is what comes to mind. When I arrived in Istanbul three weeks ago and when we were looking for our hotel in the area, it was this landmark I looked for and longed to see right away. See it I did as soon as we dropped our bags in our hotel room and went sightseeing at the adjacent Istiklal Street.
