United Airlines

At San Francisco International Airport

I cannot tell you enough how much a fan I am of United Airlines. Sure, it is not the world's best but it is the best in my world. While it is true it has gotten some bad press due to some very unpleasant incidents in the US in the last year or so, I am still a fan, a big one. I have flown many airlines in my lifetime and have flown airlines from all over the world. Trust me, United isn't far behind in terms of service. In fact, it leads many airlines in terms of customer service. I don't really need a very pretty and young flight attendant to serve me my food. It's as if I am going to have mind boggling sex with them up in the air when I fly to my destinations. Once, when I flew Iberia, the flight attendants never did a thing on board. They walked up and down the aisles before take off pretending to be busy but I think they just used the aisles to model. There was also a time when I was served the most watery clam chowder in my life on Japan Airlines on my way home from Tokyo to San Francisco. If there is one thing I dislike about United, it is the absence of Personal Movie Screens in some of their planes. Instead, they rely on their passengers to watch movies on their personal computers.

There is one thing I do admire not just with United but with many US carriers and that's their employment of middle aged and senior flight attendants. Goodness, I have seen some really senior ones but kudos to these airlines. It just goes to show that even though some are 60 or over, it doesn't mean they can longer serve food and drinks on board. They are just as capable and efficient as their young counterparts.

I also think that coach class is coach class whatever airline you fly. The best airline for me at this time for coach travel is Turkish Airlines. Boy, the amenities and the food. Which airline do you know still passes out amenity kits and a menu when you fly coach. Just Turkish now folks!

Sure, the Cathay Pacific flight attendants knew and greeted me by my name when I flew to Hong Kong once. That's because I was in my 1A cabin in First Class. That I expected.

I have heard that the Middle Eastern airlines like the Emirates and Qatar Airways are good. I have yet to fly with them though so I cannot comment. I do hope to fly with them soon. For now my love affair with United continues.
