Inside the American History Museum

15-Jan-2018 • Washington DC United States

What does one do when one is in Washington DC? Go museum hopping. Given that it was freezing out at the time of our visit, it was a no brainer that we would really visit museums not just to see the numerous exhibits but to keep out of the cold. In fact, it is indeed one of the main activities a tourist does here. Admission is free to practically all the museums!

This was my second visit to the museum and what I remember the most from my visits was the exhibit on the US First Ladies' Inaugural gowns. Needless to say, this part of the museum was popular especially to women and fashionistas. There were additions to the exhibit of course since my first visit last 1994. A number of presidents had been elected and the gowns of Mrs. Laura Bush, Michelle Obama, and Melania Trump had been added to the collection.

This is the statue that greets everyone at the main lobby.

This was the emblem of one community center. Pretty neat, don't you think. It's very encompassing of all cultures and religions.

I was glad to see the story of one Filipino immigrant on exhibit inside the museum. It formed part of the section which showcased the lives of immigrants in the USA.

Never in a million years did I think I would actually see the silken top hat Abraham Lincoln actually wore. It was such a treat. I talked to my students about it when I had to teach about this great American president.

How can I not recognize this sign? I have shopped a number of times in Chicago and it was here where I once bought a trench coat. Oh, what memories!

This was a vignette of some dock workers in Oakland, California.

Like my pose? Ha!

Farm workers in California!
