Glimpses of Chicago After 16 years!

23-Aug-2017 • Chicago, Illinois United States

Marc and I arrived in Chicago at around 12 noon Illinois time. We just took the train to reach our hotel, the La Quinta Inn and Suites, in the Financial District. I was so happy to return to Chicago after such a long time. I thought I had seen enough of Chicago until I booked this most recent trip to the city. It was November 2001 when I was there last. It had been a long time indeed.

It was a quiet Saturday afternoon when we reached the city and although I was very sleepy having slept no more than three hours the night before, I was determined to see a lot on our first afternoon. In 16 years the city certainly changed. The first of the improvements I saw was the area around State Street. How it has been wonderfully revitalized. Before, I really only enjoyed walking through the Magnificent Mile and along Michigan Avenue, not this time though. Chicago turned out to be quite a looker. A beautiful one, I must add.

What a beauty! Happy to be back, Chicago!

At the bridge over the river and in front of the Wrigley building

Trump's name is indeed everywhere. This building sat right on the river very close to the Wrigley building.

What do you say? The statues of Pennsylvanian crooner, Perry Como, with Illinois native, Abraham Lincoln on one end of the Magnificent Mile

This was St. Peter's Church, a few blocks from where we were staying. I didn't get to attend Sunday mass here but I did get to pray the Sunday we were there.

This was the very artistic detail above the main entrance to a Jewish synagogue in the Financial District.

Art was ever so present throughout the city.

Our excellent hotel in Chicago. I couldn't ask for more. Absolutely wonderful!
