Going to the Buquebus Ticket Office in Puerto Madero

23-Jul-2017 • Buenos Aires Argentina

Marc and I were in agreement that upon arrival in Buenos Aires, we would search for the Buquebus ticket office and buy ourselves the fare on board the ferry to go to Colonia de Sacramento in Uruguay.

I had read a lot of information on how to travel to Uruguay and the ferry company named Buquebus came up often in the reviews I read. It had a good and honest reputation. Luckily, we stumbled upon the office when we were sightseeing in Puerto Madero on our first day in Argentina. We went inside the ticket office, got all the information we needed, and decided to travel on a Monday, exactly three days after our arrival. We arrived in South America on a Friday morning, bought the ticket early Saturday morning and off we went to visit our 91st country on Monday, July 3rd. The ticket per person came out to less than $100 (US$97 to be exact). We couldn't be happier. At that price, I'd travel to a new country anytime.

On the day we traveled, we woke up early in the hotel. I believe Marc set the alarm clock at 6 am although I didn't really get out of bed until 6:15 am. I do remember us leaving the hotel at 6:45 am, still dark, and being nervous about the walk to the waterfront where the Buquebus ferry terminal was. Although the ferry was scheduled to leave at 9:00 am sharp, all passengers were to arrive at the terminal one hour early. We also had to factor in the walk from the hotel to Puerto Madero hence the early wake up time and departure from our NOVOTEL Hotel along the Avenida Corrientes.

What I thought was going to be a scary walk turned out to be just fine. The long walk in the cold was actually not scary at all. It was peaceful and quiet all the way through. Marc has always been a genius at finding out the shortest route.

This was inside the main hall.

Purchasing the ticket was very simple although it was time consuming. We had to show our passports as expected but what took a long time was the typing of all the personal info into the computer by the ticket agent. Then we had to go to the cashier who was in a separate office. Anyway, all that matter is that we got everything done without any problem.
