Our First Walking Tour of Kuta

30-Apr-2017 • Kuta, Bali Lesser Sunda Islands

A view of the greenery outside our fourth floor hotel room at the Mercure Hotel Kuta Beach

Shortly after check in, we dropped our bags and went for a walk around the much maligned city of Kuta. Much to our chagrin, the area was peaceful, calm, and full or energy. We walked around the city until it got dark and our legs could no longer carry us.

Me at Kuta!!!

This part of Kuta Beach was in Legian.

Another part of Kuta beach along Legian

It was obvious Kuta Beach was popular among surfers.

There were lots of vendors at the beach. These were some of the drinks they sold.

You might think this statue is a museum piece. No folks, I saw this in a sidewalk. No one seemed to mind it at all.

This was a shack serving coffee and snacks. Very colorful I say.

A temple next to a public market. There were temples galore all over Bali. I went inside not knowing it was forbidden to enter wearing shorts. I was immediately but politely asked to leave the premises which I did.

These penises seem to make their way to every market all over Southeast Asia. I tell you they are everywhere. "Who buys them?" I ask.

Another temple by the beach

Just as there are spirit houses in every house and building in Bangkok, these religious statues are ever present outside every house and commercial establishment in Bali.

My favorite, the stinky Durian. I know it's me and my genetic predisposition I just cannot for the life of me smell the horrid and toilet smell people say about this tropical fruit.

A restaurant at night

The Matahari Department store. I enjoyed going to this place. Good shopping. There was even a supermarket inside.
