Walking Around the City

6-Feb-2017 • Yangon Myanmar

I really enjoyed our stay in Myanmar. It has been a little over a month now since our trip there and I still wish we had stayed longer and visited other famous places in the country like Mandalay and Bagan. Anyway, not having seen all the sights simply gives us a reason to return. One lazy afternoon, Marc and I decided to explore the city and walk around. What caught our attention during our stroll was the architecture of the many buildings we saw. They were truly a sight to behold. The British influence was very evident. We also planned on checking out the famous STRAND Hotel. Unfortunately, visitors or onlookers are no longer allowed in unless you are a hotel guest. I felt extremely safe walking around the city. Yangon is a very, very safe city. We did not feel threatened at any time and we walked a lot.

Inside the Bogyoke Market catering mostly to tourists. We came here several times to look but we didn't really buy anything. I can't really say if the goods were either priced high or low.

The train station

A glimpse of the train station where people were buying tickets and boarding their trains.

The yard where unused trains were stored

There were lots of food stalls along the sidewalks. We didn't eat here though.
