Passing by Honolulu, Hawaii

1-Dec-2016 • Honolulu, Hawaii United States

Passing by Honolulu and Guam on United Airlines on the way to Manila was a first for me when I had to unexpectedly return home to the Philippines over my Thanksgiving break to attend my nephew's funeral. The route wasn't exactly my first preference but UA's airfare was the least costly and as the saying goes, "Beggars can't be choosers."

I have always liked United Airlines. I have always flown this airline and have traveled with them all over the world. This particular route though was one I don't wish to repeat. The reason: I flew for five hours from San Francisco to Hawaii and another eight hours from Hawaii to Guam without being served any food but pretzels. I didn't realize these two legs were considered domestic since I was traveling within US territory. As US travelers know, no food is served on flights within the mainland and within the mainland and its territories overseas. It was a good thing I have Premier Access and was able to lunch in United's Lounge in Honolulu prior to leaving for Guam.

Prior to this trip I had visited Hawaii twice. However, given that the trips I took to this state took place over a decade ago, I really had forgotten how the airport looked. I took the following pictures during my three hour layover.

There sure was a lot of greenery in the airport. I certainly loved the tropical feel.

What's an airport without airplanes? The airport was busy when I was there.

Although Philippine Airlines offers a direct flight to Manila from San Francisco, I have never flown with them in all the decades I have traveled. I don't think I ever will, if I can help it. Let's just say, it doesn't exactly have a stellar reputation in terms of on time departure and overall comfort.

Christmas could be felt in the airport with its décor just about everywhere.
