The Norfolk Hotel, Our Hotel in St. Helier, Jersey
Every time Marc and I travel I always hope and pray that our hotels are as nice as the reviews about them on Tripadvisor. So far, majority of the hotels we have stayed in have been very good thanks to Tripadvisor reviews. (Caution does need to be taken when reading them since there are indeed fake ones out there.)
Anyway, accommodations in St. Helier, Jersey are expensive. Luckily, we found a good one in the city center. The hotel was quite dated and seemed stuck in the 1980s. However, the entire place was immaculately clean. Our room was huge and it had the biggest bed we ever had during our entire three week vacation to Ireland and the UK this summer.
Our check in was quick and smooth. The staff at the front desk were very friendly. Would we return to this place again? You bet!
One traveler and former guest to the hotel mentioned that the place reminded him of the movie, Cocoon. After having stayed at the Norfolk, I understood what he meant. There certainly were a lot of senior citizens here. Majority were British pensioners who had come for their annual summer break. Should this matter? It didn't bother me at all when I was there.
I shall always remember the Breakfast/Dining Room in this hotel. Here, guests sat at tables covered in crisp table cloths and served by uniformed waiters and waitresses. It made me feel so special to be in an elegant room. The middle aged gentleman who served us would not let us go until we had eaten enough. We had told him that we were going to Guernsey for a day long excursion and that we couldn't be late. He insisted that we stayed until our Traditional English Breakfast came out. "Just two minutes to prepare. Stay. Don't go yet," he added. I personally found the gesture very kind and sweet.
