Layover in LAX on Our Way to New Orleans

5-Apr-2015 • Los Angeles United States

I was on spring break last week and after a long wait, Marc and I finally went on our fourth cruise. This time around, we chose Norwegian Cruise Lines and we traveled on their enormous ship, the Norwegian Dawn. Our previous cruise vacations were with Carnival, Costa, and Princess. Unlike the majority of cruises to the Western Carribean we set sail from New Orleans and not Miami or Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Wanting to keep costs down, we flew on mileage tickets and we had a few hours layover in Los Angeles.

I have flown through LAX quite a few times and I was pleasantly surprised to see all the improvements to the airport. I used to find it drab and outdated. Now though, the terminal we were in looked totally modern and refurbished.

I was glad we had enough time to go around and tour LAX while waiting for our connecting flight to Louisiana. The airport now looks like a big mall with lots of restaurants and stores. Beautiful art was everywhere too. To think, we were just inside the United terminal. I bet the international terminal looked just as pretty if not even more.

Southern California is synonymous with surfing and these surfboards used as decors in a restaurant were quite a sight.

Surfboards!

It seemed everyone was on spring break just like me. There were groups of young college kids everywhere.

The airport upgrade was not yet complete and there were pictures of the planned renovation on display. There is no doubt LAX will be one of the nicest airports in the US when all the work is completed. Los Angeles is a major city after all.

The United Lounge for its Platinum, Gold, and Premier members. We are members of this club and as always we get to sit and relax here far from crowds inside the airport. Unlike the Centurion Lounge in SFO, however, the food here is limited to pretzels, cookies, cheeses, and a few drinks. Can't complain though since all is free for us every time we come here when we travel.
