Dreaming of Japan, Again!

2-Mar-2015 • San Francisco, California United States

It's only been two weeks since I my most recent trip Tokyo, Japan. My quick two and a half day layover left such an impression I want to return soon.

However, for now, a trip to San Francisco's Japantown would have to do.

I have often wondered what these dolls represented. It was just last month I learned about the annual Doll Festival celebrated every March 3rd. For the Japanese, a doll is not just a toy. It is believed to possess a soul and also thought to possess the power to bring health and wealth to young girls.

Cheers!

I believe this stone sculpture depicts the internment of Japanese Americans in camps in the US during the Second World War
