Mitsukoshi Department Store in Nihombashi

19-Feb-2015 • Tokyo Japan

My partner, Marc, and I visited the Mitsukoshi Department Store in Nihombashi last 2011. Little did we now then it was Japan's first department store. When I found out about this fact last week, I just had to return and see it for myself in more detail. Besides, I wanted to buy some new shoes and I was hoping this store had some affordable ones on sale. Well, I had no luck in the affordable part but I did enjoy my visit. Everything here was priced sky high and most of the merchandise looked geared for the mature and conservative. It definitely seemed the complete opposite of the stores and boutiques in Shibuya, Omotesando, and Roppongi whose targeted shoppers were the hip, young, and trendy. It was an elegant and rich place nonetheless.

A visit to this department store was not going to be complete without a visit to its beautiful food court. I had some samples and some sales associates were intrigued as to where I was from. I did manage to take pictures of some of the food for sale.
