SF Chinatown's Moon Festival

7-Sep-2014 • San Francisco, California United States

The Moon Festival has begun in Chinatown. Should you go, be forewarned that the long stretch of Grant and Stockton streets are more than full of people. They are packed and literally bursting at the seams. We were there yesterday. It was fun though. It was nice to see lots of Chinatown residents and visitors alike enjoying themselves drinking beer, eating inside restaurants, buying knick knacks and souvenirs from the hundreds of stores, and watching concerts.

The Golden Gate Bakery is a major landmark in Chinatown. Not for its physical site but for the delicacies it sells. I have yet to pass by this bakery and not see a line. There always is. Yesterday, during the festival's first day, the line actually snaked around the block. Simply amazing. The people in this picture were actually waiting for their turn to get in.

An event in Chinatown is not complete without the dragon dance to scare the evil spirits away.

It was just yesterday when I noticed this peacock painted on a store's wall right across Old St. Mary's Cathedral.
