San Francisco's Financial District

27-Jun-2014 • San Francisco, California United States

As a child, I looked forward going to Manila's financial district. I really loved seeing all the buildings, old and new. To me very tall buildings and skyscrapers represented wealth, power, and strength.

I suppose this is a universally held belief since many nations to this day try to build the biggest, the tallest, and the most extravagant building to show off their economic might and development.

Just like any American city, San Francisco has a financial district, albeit small when compared to cities like New York and Chicago. Nevertheless, it has its share of some truly beautiful buildings like the Transamerica Building, the Bank of America Building now simply called 555 California, The Columbus Tower, the Embarcadero Towers, and more.

California Street is the major SF street that crosses the Financial District for blocks and blocks. This is the view from the bottom of the hill.

For years, I passed by this brick building on California Street while riding the Cable Car along the California Street Line. I believe it used to be a bank that sat empty and vacant for ages. It is now the site of the swank Omni Hotel.
