I had no idea what to expect from Ayuthaya, outside Bangkok. I was glad we went. I didn't realize it was such a beautiful historic place replete with monuments, statues, and ruins. I liken it to Siem Reap's Angkor Wat temples albeit on a much smaller scale.
The Elephant Kraal
Wat Mahathat
At Wat Mahathat
This sight was simply amazing. This head of a statue surrounded by the roots of a tree must be centuries old.
There was a low fence surrounding this landmark. There was likewise a guard who frequently blew a whistle every time someone approached it closely. He likewise wanted all visitors to not stand or hover over it.
Another Buddha statue in Wat Mahathat
More ruins
Tina at Wat Mahathat
We had no idea what this ruin was but it was located very close to the souvenir shop we were taken to during the tour.
The elephants tourists rode around in Ayuthaya
My very first ride on an elephant. The lady passenger I sat next to was from South Africa.
Tina and Eric enjoying their elephant ride
Feeding the elephants. How often do youget to do this in Manila and the US. Hardly ever.
That baby elephant is so cute.
Wat, wat everywhere!
While in Ayuthaya we likewise rode a tiny boat as we traveled down the river to go to Wat Chai Watthanaram
Along the way we got a glimpse of the Thai Royal family's residence by the river.
