The Alhambra in Granada

17-Feb-2014 • Granada Spain

After a full day in Seville, we left very late at night for our overnight stay in Granada. I liked MUNDOJOVEN, the student travel agency based in Madrid, a lot because their tours allowed us to basically do whatever we wanted as soon as we arrived at our destination. I joined many of their very economical day long and weekend trips to various parts of Spain throughout my entire stay in Spain. Some I took with friends while the others just by myself.

Anyway, after a good night's rest in our city center hotel in Granada, Marvi and I woke up early and headed over to one of Spain's grandest and must see landmarks', the Alhambra. As one Spanish saying goes, "He who hasn't seen the Alhambra, hasn't seen Spain""

At the Alhambra. How I wished I had more pictures of the place. I have no idea why I do not have pictures of the magnificent interiors. What I do have are postcards placed side by side the pictures in this entry in my photo albums.

In the gypsy populated Albaicin district. It has been so long since I was here. Fast forward to 2014, this area has turned into one of the hippest parts of Granada today boasting lots of bars, restaurants, and cafes. Back when we were there, we were forewarned to be very careful in the area lest we got mugged. Well, we almost did. Marvi and I got to walk around the area with some female students from Taiwan at the time. Here they were behind me.

Inside the home of a well known gypsy named Quique. His pad was a cave full of memorabilia. Just awesome. One elderly female gypsy lady advised us to visit him. In fact, she led us to his home for a quick visit and chit chat.
