The Day of Our Arrival in Florence

1-Jan-2014 • Florence Italy

If I recall correctly, the train ride from Rome to Florence didn't take longer than an hour and a half. We had an early morning departure on New Year's Day and we arrived very early at the Hotel delle Nazione Florence. We were hoping for an equally early check in so we could begin our sightseeing and cultural blitzkrieging of the city. However, we had no such luck. The hotel personnel, and it was no surprise, advised us to leave our belongings in their secured store room and return at 2 pm.

Thank goodness, we had good weather that day. As soon as we left our backpacks and in flight suitcases, we went to look for the Duomo and all the other sights.

The Santa Maria de la Nouvella was the first church we saw.

Since it was New Year's Day, all stores on the Ponte Vecchio were closed.
