The Roman Coliseum

Marc and I purposely planned our visit to the Roman Colosseum when it was dry. Just as the weather forecast predicted, it was going to rain the day before our visit to the famous Rome landmark and did it rain then. In fact, it rained the whole day from the moment we woke up to the time we called it a night. We sure were glad it was just cloudy when we scheduled our last day of sightseeing prior to our departure for Florence. For us, it was a perfect day.

Our plan was to get our tickets for the Roman Forum and the Colosseum combined really early so as to beat the lines at the ticket booths. Unfortunately, that didn't happen since we had to go to Termini Station to purchase our tickets for the second leg of our vacation the following day.

By the time we arrived at the Roman Forum, the line was already long. In fact, we waited for a little over an hour to purchase our tickets. Patience was key. Other tourists in front of us couldn't wait and left after being in line for half an hour. Anyway, the whole day visit to both world heritage sights was well worth the wait. In fact, it was spectacular.

Once inside, we were so excited we took pictures right away. For people visiting the site in the future, there really is no need to take pictures right away since the first few floors are always full of people. Go up further the Colosseum and you will have more space to take pictures at a leisurely pace and away from the crowds. Of course we didn't realize this until way later. What happened to the pictures we took from the lower levels of the Colosseum. Well, very few made it to this post. Most of the shots here were taken way up the Colosseum where we had a lot of elbow room and other tourists were scarce.

This is how the hallways of the Colosseum looked. I can't believe there is no one in this shot. The Colosseum was literally filled with thousands of visitors at the time we went.

Tour groups were everywhere.

What? You don't like the Colosseum? Just kidding folks! Marc loved it!

Wondering what this shot is doing in this post about the Colosseum? Well, this is the view from inside the Colosseum. There are views of the Roman Forum everywhere.

An obstructed view of a side of the Colosseum. Still grand, ain't it?

This is the exact spot where we lined up to purchase our ticket for both the Roman forum and the Colosseum.
