Prior to my trip to Munich, I had been to Germany once but just for a day. Some friends and I visited and toured Dusselfdorf and that was last 1990. We were on a driving tour of the Benelux countries and since Germany was right next to the Netherlands, we decided to go there as well.
Anyway, I went to Munich last 1998 since Marc had to work there for a week and we decided to attach a two week vacation to Europe shortly thereafter.
Upon my arrival in Munich, Marc and I went to Dachau, one of the concentration camps where many Jews from all over Europe perished during the Second World War.
In Dachau
At first I thought these were train tracks. It turned out these were the site where the buildings where the imprisoned Jews stayed. The barracks like buildings had already deteriorated and demolished.
These were the wooden bunk beds where many of the Jews in the concentration camps slept for a short period of time before they were eventually exterminated in gas chambers by the Nazis.
This is where the bodies of the exterminated concentration camp prisoners were cremated.

The Munich Residenz has long been the city palace and home of the Bavarian dukes and kings. It is also one of the main art museums in Europe today.
