Cu Chi Tunnels
Since the infamous Cu Chi Tunnels were quite a distance from Saigon and not walkable from our hotel, Marc and I decided to join a day long tour offered by Saigon Tourist Travel Agency. I remember being picked up by the agency representative in a van at our hotel, the New World Hotel, and then taken to another pick up point where a big bus was waiting for us. In fact, I remember vividly seeing fellow tourists looking mad at us for arriving late. It made me upset because we were up and ready to go very early where we were only to be picked up late and then get blamed for our late arrival at the main pick up point. It wasn't our fault.
Anyway, when we arrived at the tunnels, we were shown the different points of interest and then were taken into the underground tunnels. As far as I recall, it was voluntary. Only those who wanted to go went. Marc and I wanted to discover what it was inside the tunnels and I must say it was a bit scary. It was totally dark and hot underground. Moreover, the tunnels were made specifically for the small physique of the Vietnamese male at the time. We had to crouch all the way through. There was no standing inside them. It was impossible to do. I was glad to have done it but I doubt I'll do it again.
