Riga by the River

4-Aug-2013 • Riga Latvia

Leaving Old Town, Marc and I walked over to one of the bridges that crossed the river. From there we had a beautiful view of the city beginning with the Riga Castle all the way to the Central Market.

As Marc and I walked by the right embankment, we stumbled upon a monument no tourist book nor brochure wrote about. This monument simply named "1905" is in fact one of the very few Russian monuments remaining in Riga since the collapse of the Soviet Union. It is dedicated to the Russian Revolution of 1905 against the CZAR.

The 1905 Monument

This was the stone plaque explaining what the monument was. I had to do a bit of research to find out what this was since the sign was only written in Latvian and Russian.
