Fat Margaret and the Estonian Maritime Museum
Marc and I thought that we had seen most of the sights of Tallinn's Old Town after a day and a half of walking around the tiny fortified walled city. We were wrong. The city turned out to be bigger than we had originally thought and full of places to seee, visit, and explore. As soon as we left the Maritime Museum, we crossed the street and hiked up the tiny hill that seemed part of the walled fortifications.
We saw more towers, more plazas, and churches. We actually ended up doing the opposite route of the walk we did around the Tompea Castle the day before. It was lovely.
Another tower, this time not named given sheer number of towers all over Tallinn's Old Town
We walked along this wall and we stumbled upon a real jewel of a church and museum. It was the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. What a church it was! The art inside the main floor and basement was mesmerizing.
Signs like this do help me a lot in captioning and labeling pictures of historic landmarks. It is doubly helpful when it comes with an English translation.
The main altar inside the Ukrainian Kultuurikeskus or the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. I swear I have never heard of such kind of denomination. The mass must be interesting.

This church reminded me of the Karuna Church at the Seurasaari Open Air Museum in Helsinki. They both have oil paintings on wood lining a railing.

The sign for the Stenbock House
The first time I saw this sign, I thought I read Steinbeck. Was I wrong. It is Stenbock House, now a government building in Estonia.
The Stenbock House. This is just one tiny side. Almost like a guard house. I didn't realize how massive this building was after I checked it out on the internet.
This is just part of a truly huge building in Tallinn's Old Town. Its size is better viewed from the other side of Tompea Hill.
