Paris, Simply Beautiful
I was surprised when I saw this arc in the site of the former Tuileries Palace. This is the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel, a triumphal arch in Paris built between 1806 and 1808 to conmemorate Napoleon's military victories of the previous year. It looked so similar to the Arc de Triomphe de l'Etoile. It too was designed in the same year but took thirty years to build.
Marc and I did not ride the Bateaux Mouches when we visited Paris in the summer of 2000. I did travel on the boat though in the winter of 1988. I sat on the top deck with fellow students from Madrid and while it was freezing cold up there, we enjoyed the trip tremendously. Seeing the buildings and monuments lit up at night was amazing!
At the time of our visit, the Orsay Museum was totally covered in scaffolding. Work was underway on its exterior. The museum, however, remained open to visitors.
The Orsay was big and the exhibits numerous. At this point of our visit to Paris, I was quite exhausted from the cultural blitzkrieging. I actually had to sit and rest while inside the museum.
